THE CULT OF SHAMBALLA..THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND SHAMBALLAS
Mentioned in various ancient texts, Shamballa represents a quest for spiritual purity. Buddhists believe in a mythical kingdom, hidden somewhere in Inner Asia, that is inhabited by only the most enlightened of souls. Buddhists also believe there is a Shamballa in all of us, that special thing that inspires us, gives meaning and direction to our lives and provides strength and determination to meet any obstacle that blocks our path.
The philosophy is to create pieces that welcome the memory of our infinite love and deep rooted compassion towards ourselves and others. THE THEME OF THE COLLECTIONS IS THE ENERGY OF CREATION, SYMBOLIZED BY THE STAR OF SHAMBALLAS AND THE THUNDER BOLT .THE STAR REPERESENTS THE FEMALE CREATIVE ENERGY OF THE UNIVERSE AND THE THUNDERBOLT REPRESENTS THE MALE FIRE POWER OF CREATION. THE TWO SYMBOLS ARE PRESENT THROUGHT THE COLLECTION AS A RED THREAD EMBEDDED OR CARVED WITHIN THE GOLD AND SURROUNDED WITH PRECIOUS GEM STONES. BY WEARING EITHER SYMBOL ONE INVITES THE POSSIBILITY OF CONNECTING TO THE ENERGY OF CREATION.. culled from www.shamballajewels.com .
The structure of the Shamballa Jewels bracelet is derived from the Buddhist Mala, a string of prayer beads used to focus awareness during meditation or chanting, and to assist in the counting of mantras. Traditionally a red cord holds the beads together and this is symbolic of the bloodline of the Buddha and the lineage of his teachings. A full mala contains 108 beads and a wrist mala 27 (you count your way through the beads three times to reach a total of 108). In addition to the beads used to mark each repeated mantra, there is also a meru / mountain / Guru bead. This is a larger bead used to mark the start and finish of each rotation around the circumference of the mala, there may also be a tassel at this point. Whilst many mala are made of modest natural materials such as rudraksha seeds, sandalwood or bone, semi-precious stones may also be used for both their associations with different deities or for their talismanic values. Crystal may be used to inspire clarity of thought and to strengthen and transmit positive energy. Shamballa Jewellery bracelets use many semi-precious materials so they also harness natural spiritual energies to benefit the wearer, although precious metals such as white gold are used simply for their own beauty and intrinsic value.
A purely BUDDIST belief. Shamballa bracelets represent highly-personal, ancient symbols like karma, inner peace, tranquillity, and happiness. Many people wear them during yoga session, martial arts practice, and meditation, although many others buy them as a swag enhancer and also to mimic their favourite celebrities.
THE ORIGIN OF SHAMBALLA JEWELRY
In 1994 Mads Kornerup opened a store in Paris, which was relocated to Soho, New York, two years later. Both stores offered a wide range of unique ancient Indian & Tibetan jewellery, whose aesthetic and underlying spiritual expression had caught Mads’ deep attention.
This became the main source of inspiration, when Mads began designing his own pieces during the “New York years”. His innovative design quickly caught the attention of the public eye. As a matter of fact, the first Shamballa bracelet was created upon request from musician Jay Z, and already in 1998 selected pieces were available at the recognized New York department store Barney’s. However, due to tragedy of 9/11 Mads and his family had to return to their roots in Copenhagen, Denmark. However, this turned out to be a decisive point in the full blossom of Shamballa Jewels.
Back home, Mads joined forces with his brother Mikkel. Together they created Shamballa Jewels, and launched the first official jewellery collection in 2004. The collection, which among other pieces included the significant Shamballa bracelet, became an instant succes story that soon spread world wide.
